This play’s title—Circle Mirror Transformation—is elusive, and the plotline isn’t easy to explain, either. Five people, ages 16 to 55, meet at a community center for an acting class. In a mosaic of short scenes spanning six weeks, we observe relationship (romantic and otherwise) and interpersonal tensions wax and wane, like time-lapse photography. It’s not a romantic comedy or a drama, but it’s a good script (winner of the 2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play) and well-cast, including a worthy effort by acting intern Cynthia Zitter, who does well amidst four pros. Director Buck Busfield’s light touch lets the personalities gradually emerge. It’s a pleasant change of pace for B Street’s Mainstage series.

Circle Mirror Transformation, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, 2 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 5 and 9 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday; $18-$30. The B Street Theatre, 2711 B Street; (916) 443-5300; www.bstreettheatre.org. Through April 10.
