The unofficial Earth Day flag.

Earth Day? More like a week. Or a month.

Officially, Earth Day is April 22, Earth Week is April 16-22 and April is Earth Month—complete with World Heritage Day on the 18th, John Muir Day on the 21st and Arbor Day on the 29th. Too many dates to remember? Just be green all year and you won’t have to worry about missing any of them. If you still want to celebrate the Earth, or just want to get together with a group of like-minded greenies, you can always participate in one or more of the following events or activities.

Sacramento Earth Day: Sponsored by the Environmental Council of Sacramento, the event features food, entertainment, and activity and business booths. The free event attracts thousands every year. It happens Saturday, April 23, 12:30-5:30 p.m., at Southside Park, 2115 6th Street. For more information, visit www.sacramentoearthday.net.

Helping Hands: In the spirit of Arbor Day, the Bryte and Broderick Community Action Network is planning a park restoration day. Registration forms and volunteer agreements are required and can be found, along with more information, at www.bryteandbroderick.org. The restoration day is Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to noon, along the West Sacramento River Walk and the Bryte and Alyce Norman Parks. Swap-a-Palooza happens Friday, April 22, with drop-off from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and the swap from noon to 2 p.m. at Denio’s, 1551 Vineyard Road in Roseville.
