State and Main

Rated 5.0 A big-budget, Hollywood film comes to shoot in a small Vermont town, and the usual controversies and production mishaps ensue in this damned near-perfect film from writer-director David Mamet. As funny as it is charming, Mamet writes with such intelligence it’s scary. Great performances abound from the likes of William H. Macy, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Alec Baldwin. Perhaps most wonderful is Rebecca Pidgeon as a sweet and super-intelligent small-town woman who sweeps Hoffman’s screenwriter off of his feet. Not to be missed. You have no excuses.
