Repo Men

In the near future, artificial organs are all the rage. But if you can’t keep up with the payments, the organ—heart, liver, whatever—will be repossessed and you’ll be out more than money. In this bloody business, one repo man (Jude Law) makes a good living—until he gets a replacement heart he knows he can’t afford. Eric Garcia and Garrett Lerner’s script claims to be based on a novel by Garcia, but actually it’s a baldfaced ripoff of Terry Gilliam’s Brazil (1985) right down to the nasty twist ending, replacing the original’s bitter poetic wit with blood and gore under newcomer Miguel Sapochnik’s unsubtle direction. No relation between this movie and 2008’s Repo! The Genetic Opera—unless Sapochnik et al. ripped that one off, too. Forest Whitaker, Alice Braga and Liev Schreiber flounder in support.
