Rosa Chou is careful to differentiate her work as being “childlike” vs. “childish.” Her illustrations of personified creatures—wearing bowties, sitting cross-legged in chairs—may be cartoonish, but they possess a charm and playfulness, as well as a glint of mysteriousness. With a background in graphic design, its influence is evident in the simplicity of her renderings and her strategic use of pattern.
