With the clock ticking on south Davis institution the Palms Playhouse—which unfortunately gets bulldozed in the fall to make way for an apartment complex—the coming summer months offer a bunch of good reasons to visit the venue, so you can commit its magic to memory. One of the best such reasons is Sacramento native Dirk Hamilton, who returns from his current home in Austin, Texas, to play, at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, as part of a five-piece band. I’ve seen Hamilton perform live more times than I care to count—enough times to tell you that if you love such singer-songwriters as Van Morrison, John Hiatt and Graham Parker and you’re not familiar with Dirk’s music, you’ll be glad you made the trip. Consider this a lapel-pulling recommendation. The Palms is still at 726 Drummond Ave. in Davis, information is at www.palmsplayhouse.com or at (530) 756-9901, and tickets are $14.
