Peter Chedester’s “Flying Ships.”

Peter Chedester’s “Flying Ships.”

Sneak out of the mall mania and check out some new art digs at the Blue Moon Gallery. Sure, it’s a little tricky to get to, tucked in a warehouse at 2353 Albatross Way just off El Camino Avenue, but it’s worth the trouble. The gallery opened with Natural Surrealist, oil-on-canvas work by Peter Chedester christening its new walls until December 24.

Chedester’s “Flying Ships,” an enticing nightscape, is luminous, cloaked in silvery indigo, where trees are soft shapes threaded with branches and the stars twinkle above. But the stars are moving and the closest one reveals them to be a fleet of galleons with sails illuminated as they fly away. Or are they coming in for landing on the blue bayou? Look closely in “Kundalini” to see the faces etched in suggestive land formations, carved by a powerful wind, a curious force of nature unto itself.
