There are plenty of folks concerned about those little black boxes with proprietary software that soon will be recording our votes. Reports of incidents that range from “glitches” to thousands of missing votes flood the Internet, and more than a few people have speculated that the electronic, paperless voting systems will make fraud impossible to detect. Here’s a site that explains how easy it would be to have our franchise stripped by votes that disappear into the ether of the computer world. The most interesting part of the site is a voting-machine tester, which shows exactly how easy it is to program these things to elect whomever the code writer wants in office. And there are links to other sites with even more documentation, in case you’re not convinced that there’s reason for alarm.
