Two runs will help make room for a big Thanksgiving meal.

It's Thanksgiving morning, and you wake up early, probably too excited to sleep. You could get a jump on putting the stuffing in the turkey, but really, it's a better idea to start off the day with a group run. This year, there are two good runs with same-day registration options: the Run to Feed the Hungry in Sacramento (www.runtofeedthehungry.com) and the Elk Grove Turkey Trot in Elk Grove (www.courageworldwide.org/ couragerun/elk-grove-turkey-trot). Run to Feed the Hungry, supporting the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, starts on J Street near the corner of Carlson Drive, and heads through the streets of East Sacramento. The Elk Grove Turkey Trot, benefiting both Courage House and the Runnin' for Rhett Foundation, happens at Cosumnes Oaks High School, 8350 Lotz Parkway in Elk Grove. That numbness in your hands and freezing cold face? Don't worry: That's the feeling of more calories being burned in preparation to eat a huge meal later in the day. Head to each run's website for more details.
