Like the early Doobie Brothers, Sweet Vine fooled a lot of people into thinking that it was a Southern rock band. Its 1997 self-titled Columbia album came and went pretty quickly, but that album won over a lot of people who heard it. Sweet Vine may be history, but original members Nathan Dale, Hans Eberbach and Steve King have now banded together as Looking Star. You can hear the new band by downloading songs from its Web site, or you can see the band live on Friday, April 25, at Old Ironsides, 1901 10th Street, with Honeyspot and stunt double (it’s a CD-release show for the latter band). The show (21 and over) starts at 9 p.m., and admission is $8. Also, at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 27, you can see longtime Sacramento Bee writer David Barton play Jackie Greene’s songwriter showcase at Marilyn’s, 1177 K Street. Admission is $3, and Gina Livingston and Roberta Chevrette are also on the bill, as is Greene.
