Transporter 2

Rated 2.0

In this sequel to the 2002 action hit, mercenary Frank Martin (Jason Statham) is back, this time as the chauffeur and protector of the son of a U.S. government official, swinging into serious action when the boy is kidnapped by a South American drug kingpin (Alessandro Gassman). The plot of Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen’s script—which also involves a fast-acting, deadly virus—is beyond incredible, as are the bone-jarring fight sequences and Isaac Newton-defying automobile stunts. Still, there’s a kind of debauched panache to the proceedings (aided by Statham’s gravelly, deadpan delivery) that makes the movie somehow less aggravating than, say, The Dukes of Hazzard; it’s a guilty pleasure of sorts. The actors, an internationally mixed bag, grapple unevenly with their English dialog.
