Chine-collé, gravure intaglio and screen print. Those are just three of the printmaking methods that the three artists, Sandra Beard, Michelle Murillo and Carrie Ann Plank, employed in the making of their pieces for Shimo Center for the Arts’ show this month. Although the techniques may differ, their pieces seem to have another commonality in content: The pieces carry the heft of isolation, the despair of melting Arctic ice floes and the rugged terrain of microscopic views—and the beauty that is found in that kind of darkness.
