The Betrayal of America

Vincent Bugliosi

Anyone familiar with former L.A. prosecutor/Helter Skelter and Outrage author Bugliosi knows that he’s no cranky pantywaist liberal, so his long essay/rant “None Dare Call It Treason,” which ran in The Nation last February, came as a surprise. This trade paperback contains that Bugliosi-penned jeremiad along with added material and forewords by Molly Ivins and Gerry Spence. The book’s subtitled How the Supreme Court Undermined the Constitution and Chose Our President, it’ll set you back $10, and if you’re still not over the foisting of the president, it’ll sizzle your grits. Of local interest: Bugliosi’s assertion that homeboy Anthony Kennedy wrote the opinion that put the Chimpanzee In Chief in the White House; he also mentions earlier Kennedy stints as an oleaginous Sacramento lobbyist whose payola of choice was a bottle of top-shelf booze and as a pro bono water carrier for Governor Reagan.
