Students after dark

Sac State grad tells you where to late-night study, eat, shop and gamble

I began every semester with the same thoughts—I won’t procrastinate; I won’t wait until the night before to write an eight-page paper and read five chapters; I won’t stay up all night neglecting sleep—yet, inevitably, all of that happens. So when it happens to you (oh, it will), here’s a little guide of places to check out way after the sun sets.

Study

Sacramento State Academic Information Resource Center: This is the only study lounge I could find in Sacramento that is open all night; it’s primarily for Sacramento State students. They allow food and drink—a blessing many labs shut out—so those canteens of strong coffee and late-night study snacks can be enjoyed. Plus, wireless access and computer labs meet Sacramento State students’ essay, research and printing needs.

Country Club Lanes: An all-night spot where you can study on the down low. And as a bonus, bowling is an easy way to get rid of your stress and hang out with a group of friends while looking awkward.

Eat

Denny’s: Good ol’ American breakfast, lunch and dinner items are served all night to satisfy your waffle and burger cravings. And this place has coffee, a perfect tool in your mission to stay up all night long.

Adalberto’s: Open 24-seven, nachos, burritos, tacos and quesadillas are quick and easy. Grab a bite of Mexican and stare into your books.

Shop

Walgreens: Aside from last-minute school supplies, there’s an all-night pharmacy perfect when you need to fill a prescription for your allergy medications or Ritalin. Plus they have inkjet refills, so you can make that early morning class, paper in hand.

Wal-Mart: Now you can shop at night for school stuff, zit cream, a gift for a friend’s birthday or a DVD you’ve been dying to watch. And you can get it all at affordable prices for the collegiate budget.

FedEx: Whether you forgot to ship a package or need to make copies for a presentation, this store will meet those needs at the craziest times you remember to do them.

Gamble

The Limelight Cardroom: When studying is hopeless and you just want to relax, drink and gamble your life away, Limelight is open all night for responsible, 21-and-over citizens interested in a game of poker or hold ’em. Blackjack is also offered from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.
