Six pack of fine art

Pay your SMUD bill, see some art. It’s not such a bad deal at the SMUD Gallery, located at 6301 S Street, where Six Friends Six Views is displayed until November 30. Richard Feese’s shiny copper “The Fjords” catches your eye like a wild bird caught in flight, splayed out on a gallery panel. Up close, you see plaster among the metal. This piece is really part of a map series, textured by intricate hand-tooling. Peter Stegall’s three-dimensional enamel on cardboard and paper, “Painted Object,” takes a cue from hard-edged and shaped-canvas abstractionists. Ellen Van Fleet’s “Owlsbeard,” made of cut-up and reassembled watercolors, offers an op-art edge of pattern resembling disturbed ripples of water in motion and movement. Frenetic movement charges Judith Foosaner’s charcoal and paper on canvas “Crossover.” Farrar Wilson’s abstracts and Jadelle Andrews’ ink and acrylic pieces round out this friends’ show.
