Disillusioned with how a certain holiday celebrates oven-roasted fowl and garlic mashed potatoes, but downplays the devastating effects of colonialism? Throw out the turkey baster and check out The Thanksgiving Play, a satire in which four artists attempt to pull together a play that celebrates both Thanksgiving and Native American Heritage Month. Turns out, it’s trickier than it seems, especially when you only have white actors. Proceeds from Friday’s preview show will go to the California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project, which is dedicated to preserving Nisenan culture in Nevada County.
