Our Town

Rated 4.0

Our Town is well known and worthy because Thornton Wilder nailed it, and so does City Theatre in their current production. While the staging is as traditional as it gets, Martha Kight’s performance as the stage manager strikes just the right balance, using her expressive gifts to full effect, softening her worldly-wise smirk at just the right moment to carry the audience from irony into wistfulness and on through to wonder. The pre-wedding scene between George Gibbs (Phillip Booth) and his future father-in-law, Mr. Webb (Jes Gonzales), is note-perfect and heart-achingly funny.
