Oil pop quiz (no pressure)

Listen up, kiddies: Auntie Ruth has a pop quiz for you: A major oil company faces criticism for earning billions of dollars in record profits, cushy tax breaks and for failing to significantly invest in clean energy programs. Does the company: (a) use those enormous profits to wean America off its destructive oil addiction, or (b) get a lobbying organization to release a media blitz letting the public know why we should keep doing business as usual? The answer, much to Ruth’s dismay, is (b), as the American Petroleum Institute, which represents some 400 oil and natural-gas corporations dropped slick new ads on television, radio and print media as part of a push to keep Congress from passing new taxes on oil profits and to make the industry look not so evil.
