This chilling, unpredictable novel is told from the perspective of three college students taking a class in logic and reasoning. At the start of the class, the professor announces that their sole project for the semester will be to save a girl who is to die on the last day of the semester—unless they can find her. Each week, the professor provides additional clues to the puzzle. As the semester progresses, and the clues become more confusing and other aspects of their lives seemingly become entwined with the girl in danger, the students begin to question what they know and whether they can trust anyone. Eventually, they become convinced that the girl is real—and desperate for proof she is not. It’s a startling tale that is as much a ghost story and epistemological fable as a delicious mystery.
