Mon, Aug 10, Dwele

Avalon Nightclub, 9 p.m., $25

It’s disconcerting to think that Dwele’s biggest exposure to date has been an appearance on a McDonald’s commercial. (He’s the guy with the blown-out Afro singing sweet lullabies to the new McCafé Mocha coffee drink.) In fact, he’s nearly made a career out of singing lush choruses on other people’s hits, whether it’s Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights” or Slum Village’s “Tainted.” But Dwele has a catalog worth discovering: Check last year’s Sketches of a Man for proof, and then skedaddle to Avalon for an intimate night with the Detroit player. Get there early for Anthony David, an Atlanta troubadour well-versed in acoustic soul. 805 15th Street, www.myspace.com/dwele.
