Getting kids to eat can be tough, even— or maybe especially—for chefs. I asked River Klass, chef-owner of Grounds (402 Main Street in Murphys, (209) 728-8663) and Firewood (420 Main Street in Murphys, (209) 728-3248) what his kids’ favorite foods are: “My daughter Bronté, who is 11, will eat the most brilliant things, like foie gras. She has very discriminating taste. If I try to give her domestic prosciutto, she will know immediately. My son Malcolm is 7, and he eats mostly brown food, by which I mean deep-fried food or peanut butter. I’m afraid that if I cut him, he’s going to bleed peanut butter.”
