Isn’t That Bigamy?

Mike Vogel

Take a commitment-phobic ladies’ man who’s witnessed a mob hit, a lesbian FBI agent, a mobster who reads Fortune magazine and a Utah town full of polygamists, and throw them all together. The resulting mayhem becomes the basis of this fast-paced and outrageously farcical novel. Stan just got rid of his girlfriend, but quicker than you can say “Make him an offer he can’t refuse,” he’s got not one, not two, but three wives—each with her own odd little agenda. Vogel’s sharp wit comes through clearly without being overbearing, and his characters are just close enough to normal to make this the most endearing kind of black humor. Frenetic pacing maintains the comic tone; it’s only a problem at the very end, when things move so fast that it’s hard to keep up.
