Sacramento Comedy Spot hosts the fourth annual Sacramento Comedy Festival this weekend. The festival showcases the Comedy Spot's various improv troupes and sketch-comedy shows. It also features a stand-up comedy competition, Bay Area sketch and improv troupes, British comedy troupe the Cambridge Footlights, and a reunion show by the Free Hooch Comedy Troupe, a sketch group that performed in Sacramento from 2001 to 2005. Some Free Hooch members went on to appear in shows such as Key and Peele, Parks and Recreation and America's Got Talent. But perhaps most importantly, the troupe's founder, Brian Crall, went on to create a venue called the Sacramento Comedy Spot. Sacramento Comedy Festival, $8-$15 per show, $45-$55 for an all-festival pass; various times Friday, September 12, through Saturday, September 20; Sacramento Comedy Spot, 1050 20th Street, Suite 130; www.saccomedyfest.com.
