From Hell

Rated 4.0 Based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore, the saga of Jack the Ripper is given a first-rate treatment by the Hughes Brothers (Menace 2 Society). Johnny Depp stars as an opium-addicted investigator who has visions of murdered prostitutes before they fall victim to the Ripper, whose identity makes for a decent mystery in the movie. The brothers have meticulously recreated late 19th-century England, with their only mistake being the casting of Heather Graham as a dirty prostitute. (She’s too clean and pretty, and her cockney accent sucks.) Depp is his usual great self, with nice supporting performances from Ian Holm and Robbie Coltrane. A damn good-looking movie.
