Fri, July 17, Sleep

Fire Escape Bar and Grill, 8 p.m., call for cover

Remember Common’s “I Used to Love H.E.R.”? Well, I used to love her, too. That is, until rap turned into an emaciated crack hoe. Sad. But she went to rehab, and thanks to dudes like Portland’s Sleep, she stopped pawning her dignity for cash. Last time Sleep came to Sacramento, they tore the clothes off lady hip-hop and things got perverse. Sleep is coming back to support his solo album, Hesitation Wounds, which boasts the track “Talk About It”—a perfect 10, full of verbal dexterity and a classic, old-school beat. If Wounds was a woman, it would look just like Jessica Alba bending over a chair. End metaphor. 7431 Madison Avenue in Citrus Heights; (916) 967-5464.
