Fri., April 19, Parie Wood

Shine, 8 p.m., $5

Parie Wood's first EP Manifest, released last June, includes songs she's written since she was 13 (she's now in her late teens). Listen to “People” and “Freeloader” and you'll know why SN&R named her one of “The New Creatives” (see “The New Creatives” by Rachel Leibrock; SN&R Feature Story; August 18, 2011). She also received the New Artist award at the 2012 Sammies and a Judge's Award at the 2011 Jammies. Her influences include Bob Dylan, Ani DiFranco, and Simon & Garfunkel. Her songs are personal and political, and when she sings about being so young on “Missing Pieces,” you forget her age. Joining Wood on Friday are Kansas City, Mo.-based antique-pop pair Victor & Penny, and duo Brian Rogers and Sam Phelps. 1400 E Street, http://pariewood.com.
