Food Stuff

Nothing gives a person quite such a warm feeling as a bowl of hot soup—unless it is knowing that the price paid for the soup will help feed the hungry. This year’s Empty Bowls charity luncheon is on Tuesday, March 14, at the Sacramento Masonic Temple, located at 1123 J Street. The $25 ticket price, proceeds from which benefit River City Community Services, includes not just soup, bread, dessert and coffee, but also a handmade ceramic bowl to keep. Local ceramists donate the bowls. Local restaurants and food-service businesses like Scott’s Seafood Restaurants, Michelangelo’s Italian Art Restaurant, Classique Catering and the Hyatt Regency Sacramento contribute the soup. Respectively, they’re offering crab bisque, minestrone, Tuscan bean and carrot-ginger. No matter what you like in your soup bowl, you’re likely to find something to your taste—particularly if you like a side of fighting hunger with your lunch.
