The screenings, lectures and exhibits at Friday’s All Youth Film and Education Day are just the beginning of this year’s three-day Sacramento Festival of Cinema. On Friday evening, the festival, now in its eighth year, will feature film screenings and personal appearances by young Latino filmmakers Jim Mendiola (Speeder Kills) and J. Alexander Jimenez (End of the Law; Taco Heaven; and Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane). Saturday morning opens with a presentation on special effects by Industrial Light & Magic, the folks behind the Harry Potter and Star Wars movies. The rest of the weekend will include screenings of independent and international films, a film-finance symposium, winners from the “A Place Called Sacramento” competition and works from more than 50 animators.
