End of a Celtic era

Golden Bough with traditional instruments and contemporary hairstyles.

The original promotional photos of Golden Bough, taken in 1980, look like someone kidnapped the members of ABBA; dressed them in costumes from a Renaissance fair; and forced them to hold harps, fiddles and lutes. In the 25 years since then, Golden Bough has evolved out of its feathered hairstyles and into one of the nation’s foremost Celtic bands. Famous for unique arrangements of traditional material as well as original songs, Golden Bough has toured continuously in America and Europe. It’s been a good run, but the band members are ready to take an extended hiatus to pursue solo projects. Wish them well at their 25th-anniversary concert this Sunday at the Palms Playhouse, located at 13 Main Street in Winters. The three current members will be joined by Golden Bough alumni for their final concert in the Sacramento area. The music begins at 7:30 p.m., and admission is $17.
