Elephants in Galt?

Not a circus.

Not a circus.

Think Galt is just a gas stop on your way to L.A.? The elephants might disagree. Galt is also home to the Performing Animal Welfare Society’s (PAWS) 30-acre sanctuary. The animals—including Harriet the baboon, Little Mac the sugar glider (if you have to ask, you’d better come meet him) and Sheba the lion—have been rescued from harsh work environments. You can meet these amazing animals at the PAWS Christmas Open House noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. Bring fresh or canned fruit for the animals and enjoy holiday singers and festivities. Admission is $8. For info and directions, call (209) 745-2606 or visit www.pawsweb.org.
