Remember The Right Stuff ? All the grit and glory of America’s space adventures began with Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier. And where did that happen? Right here in California, baby, at Edwards Air Force Base. Even in the days when monkeys were our astronauts, California played a crucial role in the aerospace industry. Today, NASA has more centers in California than any other state. The Golden State also hosts 40 percent of the global satellite market. Explore California’s space age dominance with the Golden State Museum’s aptly titled exhibit California in Space. Learn about the history of space exploration and the newest projects to appear on NASA’s drawing board. Six interactive kiosks allow visitors to experience shuttling to space, living in space, science, business and laboratories in space and the future of exploration … in space. Launch your visit any time between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, or noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Admission to California in Space is free. Golden State Museum, 1020 O St. Call 653-7524 or visit www.goldenstatemuseum.org for more information. The exhibit orbits Sacramento until April 28.
