Bring the bright

Bright and fauvist, Jim Marxen’s landscapes bear an influence from the work of Gregory Kondos. But Marxen also textures his ’scapes with post-impressionist pointilistic brushstrokes. His urban scenes, which include Sacramento-area landmarks and snapshots of daily life, have the sharper outlines and harder edges of cities—but his palette of vivid hues doesn’t pale.
