Bring on the vegan fest

Hankerings for a festival that shows off the (delicious) power of vegetables will soon be satiated, thanks to the SacTown VegFest. Not to be confused with the Sacramento Vegfest, which was put on by the Del Paso Boulevard Partnership in recent years (but MIA in 2015), the SacTown VegFest is a Sacramento Vegetarian Society production and takes place Saturday, January 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Serna Center (5735 47th Avenue). This all-vegan festival has the de rigueur bullet points: food vendors with free samples, educational presentations, activities for kiddos and live music. The keynote speaker is Kristie Middleton, food policy director of the Humane Society of the United States. Scientists will be presenting, too, including Dr. Rosane Oliveira, a veterinarian and founding director of the UC Davis Integrative Medicine Program, whose website says, “Chocolate Has Its Very Own Holiday!” Well, that’s a good sign.
