Birding for Families

If your birding knowledge is limited mostly to pigeons and the crows that cloud Sacramento's downtown skyline at dusk, it's time to venture into the wilderness—or at least a nicely cultivated trail—to learn more about the other winged creatures that populate the city. On Saturday, April 12, the Effie Yeaw Nature Center hosts a birding and nature walk that's led by a specialist. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. and goes until noon. It's free, but donations are also accepted. Bring binoculars (or borrow a pair from the center). 2850 San Lorenzo Way in Carmichael, (916) 489-4918, www.sacnaturecenter.net.
