Whether you believe in ghosts or are simply a history buff, the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery's guided tours are a must. Various treks are offered year-round, but we're particularly partial to the fall calendar, which includes evening Lantern Tours in October—you know, just in time to prep for Halloween and the Day of the Dead. On these nights, costumed docents guide visitors through the cemetery grounds, dishing history on the graveyard's occupants with tales of murder and other untimely, scandalous or noteworthy deaths. This season's tours take place October 18, 19, 25, and 26, and cost $30 per person. 1000 Broadway, (916) 448-0811, www.oldcity cemetery.com.
