Earlier this summer at the biggest home-brewing competition in the country, Sacramento's Annie Johnson beat out more than 3,000 other brewers and took home the top prize. Many consider beer-brewing a man's world, and a woman hadn't won the National Homebrewers Conference title in 30 years. Her winning beer was a lager, which often is not the most coveted or admired style among beer advocates, yet she beat out the flock to bring first place to the River City. If you want to learn more about home-brewing, and maybe even bump into Johnson, visit Brew Ferment Distill (3216 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard); she recently batched a saison at the facility. Cheers!
