Along Came a Spider

This is a guilty pleasure. A prequel to the not-so-good Kiss the Girls, Morgan Freeman returns as Alex Cross, this time out to recover a kidnapped child from a fame-seeking psycho (Michael Wincott, one of my favorite actors). After one of the worst beginnings to a movie you will ever see, things settle down into a decent thriller with some great surprises. Monica Potter is good as the special agent who becomes Cross’ partner, and Freeman—no surprises—is good as Cross. There is much about this film that bugs me, but I have to give it credit for totally fooling my ass.
