When Robert Louis Stevenson penned The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde he could never have anticipated a national tour of Jekyll & Hyde, a musical starring biochemistry major Aleks Knezevich in the dual-title role. Stevenson's dark tale of the good and evil residing in each of us takes a unique twist from the original Broadway musical that debuted nearly 20 years ago, as this version more deeply examines mental illness, especially schizophrenia, and the struggle faced by a person with mental illness in society. Noteworthy musical numbers include “This is the Moment,” “Lost in Darkness,” “Transformation” and “Take Me as I Am,” a duet with Eryn LeCroy, who portrays Emma Carew. This dark musical features music by Frank Wildhorn, book by Leslie Bricusse and lyrics by Wildhorn, Bricusse and Steve Cuden. It's recommended for mature audiences. Jekyll & Hyde, Monday, January 19, through Wednesday, January 21; $45-$79; Harris Center for the Arts, 10 College Parkway in Folsom; (916) 608-6888; https://harriscenter.net.
