What Women Want

Rated 1.0 This is one major slog through cinema hell. Mel Gibson stars as a pig-headed ad executive who, after a mishap involving a hair dryer and a bathtub, can hear women’s thoughts. According to this film, women aren’t thinking anything all that relevant—mainly that they need to be saved by Mel Gibson. Not funny, and often very insulting. Gibson is far too charming an actor to be wasting his time with such shallow, offensive material. The same goes for Helen Hunt and Marisa Tomei, two Oscar winners who are shamed and embarrassed in this mess. I don’t think there was a single film all year that made me feel more uncomfortable.
