Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay

Rated 2.0

America’s favorite multicultural potheads are back; this time, they hop a plane for Amsterdam, where Kumar’s new bong is mistaken for a bomb. Whisked off to Gitmo, they (naturally) escape, with the Homeland Security stormtroopers in hot pursuit. Stars John Cho and Kal Penn return from Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, as are writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. Hurwitz and Schlossberg share directing chores this time as well, but with spotty and uncertain results. The movie is occasionally very funny—but only occasionally, where White Castle was a parade of belly laughs from start to finish. More often—very often—this one is simply unpleasant and mean-spirited, something the first movie, for all its raunch and crudeness, never was. (And yes, Neil Patrick Harris is back, too).
