The Ten Commandments

Rated 1.0

A more fitting title for this puny little animated feature might be Exodus: The Video Game, as Moses (voice by Christian Slater) obeys the command of God (Elliott Gould—yes, that Elliott Gould) to wrest his people free of their bondage to the Egyptian Pharaoh (Alfred Molina). Who on earth thought we needed yet another animated version of Cecil B. DeMille’s 1956 epic? (It’s already been done—and quite well, thank you, far better than this—in 1998’s The Prince of Egypt.) It was probably a fool’s errand, but give directors Bill Boyce and John Stronach and writer Ed Naha credit at least for taking it on. Unfortunately, they deserve little credit for the result, a pathetic little pipsqueak of a movie that should have gone straight to video, with primitive state-of-the-art-in-1990 computer animation.
