Rebound

Rated 3.0

You’d have to have a heart of stone not to find Rebound at least a little cute, and you’d have to have rocks in your head to expect it to be a great film. A bratty college coach (Martin Lawrence) reluctantly resuscitates a tragic middle-school basketball team—from which he relearns some team-spirit fundamentals. Lazily developed, full of cloying music and air-ball jokes and, of course, derivative (The Bad News Bears meets The Mighty Ducks meets every other underdog-kids’-sports-team movie), it nonetheless manages a sweet, real reverence for its young, variously uncoordinated heroes. You’ll probably find it forgettable, until your kids plead to own the DVD.
