The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Rated 4.0

Four teenage girlfriends (Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Blake Lively) buy a pair of jeans that—as if by magic—fits them all perfectly; they then agree to pass the pants among them by mail as they go their separate ways for the summer. Adapted from the popular young reader’s book by Ann Brashares, the movie is a charming, well-made comedy-drama for girls of all ages. Delia Ephron and Elizabeth Chandler’s script is sprightly and light-footed, director Ken Kwapis manages to juggle the four different stories with only a slight flagging of momentum in the waning minutes, and it’s all photographed in bright sunny colors by veteran John Bailey. Kwapis coaxes excellent performances from all four of his leads and from young Jenna Boyd as a lonely 12-year-old who latches on to Tamblyn.
