Cursed

Rated 3.0 After surviving an auto accident, a young career woman (Christina Ricci) and her nerdy teenage brother (Jesse Eisenberg) are attacked by a mysterious animal—under a full moon! Writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven take a whack at a good old-fashioned werewolf movie, with a sprinkling of Hollywood in-jokes (including bits by Scott Baio, Craig Kilborn, and Lance Bass as themselves). They make a surprisingly entertaining go of it—most of the time, anyhow. The movie runs out of steam in the last act, when Williamson and Craven spring too many “surprise” twists that seem like frantic efforts to keep things chugging along. Still, it’s fun for much of the way, with clever Rick Baker makeup effects (obviously inspired, as was Williamson’s script, by his work on An American Werewolf in London).
