Dinosaurs 3D: Giants of Patagonia

Rated 4.0

If you like dinosaurs (and hey, who doesn’t?) you’ll love the latest IMAX 3-D documentary, following paleontologist Rodolfo Coria as he tramps the rugged wilds of Patagonia (southern Argentina), site of the largest dinosaur finds—that is, finds of the largest dinosaurs—in the world. Writer-director Marc Fafard doesn’t tell us much about dinosaurs that a well-informed youngster mightn’t already know, though it does take some work to get your mind around the idea of a 120-foot Argentinosaurus. Fortunately, Fafard doesn’t leave it to our imaginations, supplying convincing CGI behemoths to lumber around us, brushing the edges of our 3-D glasses and rattling our teeth with the seismic thunder of their sequoia-size legs. It’s great fun, set to stately narration by the soothing lisp of Donald Sutherland.
