Cherish

Rated 2.0 Finn Taylor’s rather clunky but well-acted romantic comedy unsuccessfully slithers into a quasi-thriller climax after San Francisco animator and party girl Zoe Adler (Vertical Limit’s Robin Tunney) is carjacked during an evening of drinking and blamed for a fatal hit and run accident. Zoe, who has spent her formative years embracing fantasies ignited by and dancing to sentimental 1980s pop songs, grapples with loneliness and the house arrest restrictions of an electronic bracelet program as she befriends her bracelet technician (Tim Blake Nelson) and realizes she is being stalked. This search for love and self worth is affectionately offbeat but strains as it plunges into violence. Taylor previously made a minor splash at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival with Dream With the Fishes.
