Summit sign approved

Last week on this page we reported on the vote in the Reno Planning Commission to deny approval of a digital sign at Summit Sierra mall. We reported it that way because that was the outcome announced.

However, the Reno city attorney subsequently found that there is a different voting requirement for the Reno City Council than for city committees made up of citizens. In the City Council, a majority of the full elected membership is needed for a denial. However, in an appointive board of unelected members, a majority of those present in the room at the time the vote is taken is needed. At the sign hearing, one member was missing.

Accordingly, the sign was approved and now goes to the City Council for final approval.
