Planner departs

Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency director Rosanna Coombes has resigned to join the Reno office of Microsoft Corporation.

But she is staying with the planning agency to bat clean-up. It is being moved from its Reno City Hall offices to joint offices with the Regional Transportation Commission so that planning and transportation agencies will work more closely together. The RTC has offices on Sutro, Terminal, and under the 395 freeway between Matley Lane and Durham Road. It will close down the Sutro office, and TMRPA will move into the RTC building on Terminal.

Coombes must, among her final duties, get the planning agency out of its lease at City Hall. She said she has not yet scheduled her last day. “I’m working with the board right now on a transition plan, so no date has been set.” She has been with the agency for 11 years.

The Regional Planning Agency was forced on local governments by Sen. William Raggio in 1989 after local governments that were at odds with each other disbanded an earlier planning commission.
