July 1

There are events throughout the day, but the big official opening night performance of Artown is this evening. Country singer Sherrié Austin opens for high energy country, blues rock band Mountain Heart. Wingfield Park. 7-10 p.m. Free. Call 322-1538 for more information.

July 2

The World Music Series kicks off this Wednesday night with the Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu dance company. The dancers will perform their trademark hula mua style, which incorporates traditional movements with some non-Hawaiian music. Wingfield Park. 7:30-9:30 p.m. Free. July 3

July 4

July 5

July 6

July 7

Come out for the Family Festival complete with crafts, games, face painting and more. Reservations are recommended for face painting. July 8

Today is the Day of Visual Art, and there are a ton of events in the visual arts category and in other aspects, too. Come celebrate moving art at BLUR: Art in Motion. Come out to drum and dance in the light of the full moon. All ages and experience levels welcome. Bring your own drum or music maker if you have one, but some will be supplied. Missoula Children's Theatre is hosting auditions for Rapunzel today. About 60 roles will be filled with students in first through twelfth grade. Rehearsals will run about four and a half hours each day this week with the performance on Saturday, July 19 at 3 and 5:30 p.m. Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northern Nevada. 2-4 p.m. Free. The Dancing in the Park series hosts Sierra Nevada Ballet for a performance of Dancing by the River. It will be directed by Rosine Bena with a variety of performers including international tap dancer Sam Weber, singer Cami Thompson and her trio and former Joffrey principal Domingo Rubio. Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche plays this evening (and others throughout the month). It's rated PG and is directed by Sandra Brunell Neace. The 14th annual Art Paws is a full day event meant for you and your pooch. There are activities for your pet, wine and beer for you and vendors throughout the park. As part of the Summer Soiree Under the Stars series, Judy Collins is performing. She's a singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist with a career of over 50 years. The Creative Kids for Critters event will feature animal-related crafts for kids as well as sketches of their favorite shelter pets. The pets will also create some art, too. Kids up to age 12 are allowed to enter the annual visual arts show. This year's theme is growing up and all art should reflect that. Prizes will be awarded. There will also be art activities, face painting and treats for families.
