We’re In Trouble

Local author Christopher Coake, who teaches creative writing at the University of Nevada, Reno, confronts death, betrayal and unhappy love in his new collection of short stories, We’re In Trouble . In “All Through The House,” a rural sheriff revisits the house where his best friend murdered his own family and killed himself. In “Abandon,” a young couple on a weekend getaway face death when they’re trapped in a snowstorm. “Cross Country” is an unsettling, Lolita-esque story of a man and a young boy on a road trip that may actually be an abduction. The settings of his stories are not particularly original, but Coake treats his characters skillfully and with care, exploring crisis situations from the perspective of those directly involved.
